Brown Patch Fungus
With Georgia’s hot summer temperatures and high humidity levels come fungus conditions. There are two main funguses that we commonly see. The first, and most common, is Brown Patch fungus. Brown is very common with in Fescue lawns. The good news is that this is treatable! Fungicides are available to treat brown patch on a curative and preventative basis. Of course, like anything else, you will have much better results if you tackle the problem before it gets bad. Below is an example of Brown Patch.
Dollar Spot Fungus
The second fungus that you will commonly see is called Dollar Spot fungus. Named for its small, “silver dollar” sized patches, this fungus is more commonly found in Bermuda and Zoysia lawns. This fungus is treatable as well. Unlike Brown Patch, this fungus can easily be treated on a curative basis. Curative meaning that the fungus is already present. Below is an example of Dollar Spot.
